For the whole of today’s lesson, it’s all idea discussion.
My group came up with 4 ideas, Idea 1 being the simplest and Idea 3 being the toughest. Basically, Idea 1 consists of only video and the cast is only the 4 of us (group mates). Because there’s neither animation nor actors required, thus, being the easiest idea out of the three.
Idea 3’s the toughest Idea that will make us push ourselves to the furthest as there will be animation as well as actors (we’ll have to find actors that have time to spare). It will begin with snapshots around TP Design school (mainly consist of students favourite spot like The Design Canteen, Xerox printing shop – design student has priority, Library, darkroom, 3/2d labs, Mac labs etc) then we’ll move on to snapshots (Prisoner style) of me & my group mates.
Like almost every group in the class, we decided to showcase our work/MOI course through subjects. Since as a o’level graduate who has no idea what they’re getting into, the easiest way to get them interested is by showing them subjects that our course offers.
Idea 3 will have several scenes with a mixture of both animation as well as video, thus, making things tougher as compared to Idea 1.
Idea 2 will be a mixture of Idea 1 and Idea 3.
One of my group mates suggested a comedic video because she thinks the standard way of filming might be too boring for the people. Therefore, we came up with Idea 4 – exaggeration/comedic video.
Our group is actually the only group that has yet discussed with our lecturer about our ideas (due to the lack of time and the class were all told to further edit our ideas).
Our lecturer reminded us about the key things that we have forgotten:
- What is the product?
- Product do
- Who is it doing for?
When it came to key point no. 3, we realised that we would have to leave out Idea no. 4 as our target audience is potential freshmen as well as parents. A exaggerating/comedic style might just turn off the parents and the students would not take us in seriously.
Our lecturer advised us to think about the style we are going to do, how we are going to advertise our course (what is the most appealing factor in the course) and how we are going to show it.
After one year in Temasek design school, I came to realise that one thing I’m sure I could find in Temasek design school that I can’t find it elsewhere was F-U-N. Even though we have to stay till late hours to finish our final assignment (big ones that we have to stay back in school and do), I really enjoyed it because it is really fun to be doing work with friends’ company.
In the end, my group decided to choose “fun” as the selling point and recreate the fun we experienced in our subject for our video.
FIGHTO! GOOOOOO (insert future-group-name) GROUP!
