Day 3
Our lecturers handpicked serveral opening/ending sequences as well as the making of the video for us to see and learn from it.
They not only show us the good ones, but the bad ones too. Styles that they do not advised us to use for our MOI project one video.
One of the styles is handy camera style. I've already expected that particular style to be on the 'don'ts list as it has lots of jerky movement that might cause nauseau to the viewers,
thus, losing their attention/focus on the video and that will eventually kill off any interest they might have hold for MOI.
Narration's also a very important factor, especially the narrator's way of speaking. Whether it'll be on a serious (the monotonous documentary kind that's usually found in National geographic)
note or on a light-hearted & fun note. I've yet discuss the narration part with my fellow group mates yet but I think we'll be settling down for the light-hearted & fun note.
Because if we were to do it on a serious note, it might just turn off/scare away the secondary school students (besides, the selling point we've choosed for MOI is "FUN")
Alfie talked about the settings and how it'll affect the main character as well as the look of the whole video. Another thing he mentioned that I think we have to look out for is the lighting.
Like what he said, we dont want ourselves or our classmates look bad on the screen. Therefore, we'll have to take extra measures to make sure it wont happen. (by using a white board to act as a light reflector)
Then, it's about how sounds affect videos and the importance of sound effects. In my opinion, sound is a crucial element in a good video. Sounds are able to create/bring out the atmosphere more efficiently.
There's also a couple of opening/ending sequences that use graphics instead of video. I personally loved the way they manupliate the graphics, it brings out more life and makes the opening & ending sequence much more interesting
(able to grasp hold of a young adult attention since) It's highly unpredictable what will come in next, thus, the viewer would want to continue watching the whole show.

Day 2
For the whole of today’s lesson, it’s all idea discussion.
My group came up with 4 ideas, Idea 1 being the simplest and Idea 3 being the toughest. Basically, Idea 1 consists of only video and the cast is only the 4 of us (group mates). Because there’s neither animation nor actors required, thus, being the easiest idea out of the three.
Idea 3’s the toughest Idea that will make us push ourselves to the furthest as there will be animation as well as actors (we’ll have to find actors that have time to spare). It will begin with snapshots around TP Design school (mainly consist of students favourite spot like The Design Canteen, Xerox printing shop – design student has priority, Library, darkroom, 3/2d labs, Mac labs etc) then we’ll move on to snapshots (Prisoner style) of me & my group mates.
Like almost every group in the class, we decided to showcase our work/MOI course through subjects. Since as a o’level graduate who has no idea what they’re getting into, the easiest way to get them interested is by showing them subjects that our course offers.
Idea 3 will have several scenes with a mixture of both animation as well as video, thus, making things tougher as compared to Idea 1.
Idea 2 will be a mixture of Idea 1 and Idea 3.
One of my group mates suggested a comedic video because she thinks the standard way of filming might be too boring for the people. Therefore, we came up with Idea 4 – exaggeration/comedic video.
Our group is actually the only group that has yet discussed with our lecturer about our ideas (due to the lack of time and the class were all told to further edit our ideas).
Our lecturer reminded us about the key things that we have forgotten:
- What is the product?
- Product do
- Who is it doing for?
When it came to key point no. 3, we realised that we would have to leave out Idea no. 4 as our target audience is potential freshmen as well as parents. A exaggerating/comedic style might just turn off the parents and the students would not take us in seriously.
Our lecturer advised us to think about the style we are going to do, how we are going to advertise our course (what is the most appealing factor in the course) and how we are going to show it.
After one year in Temasek design school, I came to realise that one thing I’m sure I could find in Temasek design school that I can’t find it elsewhere was F-U-N. Even though we have to stay till late hours to finish our final assignment (big ones that we have to stay back in school and do), I really enjoyed it because it is really fun to be doing work with friends’ company.
In the end, my group decided to choose “fun” as the selling point and recreate the fun we experienced in our subject for our video.
FIGHTO! GOOOOOO (insert future-group-name) GROUP!

Day 1
Today, we went through the briefing for MOI project one.
I was expecting a solo project, however, it turn out to be a group based project.
We have to do a 10 minutes video for Temasek Open House to get people interested in joining Moving Images.
I'm very glad that we get to choose our own group rather than being randomly place in a group. This way, I'll be able to work with people that I'm comfortable, thus, a more efficient team.
We (my group) stayed back for some discussions and we agreed on mixing both animation and video. It might be more work but since we are working on a Moving Images open house video, it's injustice to leave out animation.
My group mates consist of Derick, Cheryl & Shermin and I'm looking forward to work with them for these two blocks.
